Sea Otter!

Hello guys, so now I would like to tell you about sea otters. Sea otters are one of my favorite animals because they are really cute... I think you guys also will love them too after saw them.

So, the sea otter is one of the otter species. Otter family has 4 species, they are European otters, North American river otter, giant otters, and sea otters. All of them are from the same Subfamily, Lutrinae.

Sea otter or Enhydra Lutris is the second smallest mammals in the world. Although they are the smallest, they are the heaviest among Mustelidae family. Male sea otters usually weigh 22 - 49 kg, and 1.2 - 1.5 meters in length. Females are smaller, they are between 14 to 33 kg and 1.0 to 1.4 meters in length. The females are usually having the longer lifespan than the males. The females got 15 - 20 years of lifespan, meanwhile the males got 10 - 15 years of lifespan.

Sea otters also have such thick furs, around 250,000 to a million hairs per square inch. Since they don't have layers of bubbler to make them warm, these furs help them to keep warm.

Female sea otters give a birth after 6 - 8 months of pregnancy. The birth occurs depend on their location. In Northern populations, the peaks between May and June, and the Southern population peaks between January and March. Every female sea otter can give a birth to an otter pup, but some of them also give a birth to a twin pup that occurs in 2% of births.

The pups are usually weighing 1.4 to 2.3 kg, with the fluffy furs that grew on their body. At first, their moms observed to lick and fluff a newborn for hours. The pups can't dive yet. So, they keep floating on the water and keep leaning to their moms.

They are carnivores, usually eat urchins, abalone, mussels, clams, crabs, snails and about 40 other marine species.

Their habitat in the world is in shallow coastal waters off the northern Pacific. Their historic range stretched from Japan, along the coast of Siberia and the Aleutian Chain and down the Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and California coast to Baja California.

The population of sea otters now has been decreased around 50% in a span of last 45 years. Sea otters are endangered because the hunting for their furs, and also the parasites in the ocean also made the sea otters population is exceeding quickly.

That was my description of sea otters. What are your favorite animals? Tell me below!
